St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – Idumagbo, Lagos
The Millennium Challenges of a Historic Parish
It’s generally considered that the beginning of the new century as well as the millenium is a major turning point, not only perceived from a centenary era stand point but also in the life time of individuals and institutions that have weathered so many uncertain times.
Emphatically, the Catholic Church has championed the herald of this millenium by proclaiming its preceding three years as a preparatory period for the Great Jubilee;
In 1997, the Church declared 52 weeks self-dedication to the person of Jesus Christ, while 1998 and 1999 were devoted to the homage of the Holy Spirit and God the Father, respectively.
The Great Jubilee
Unanimously, the world witnessed an unprecedented devotion in the year 2000 pronounced as the Lord’s Year of Favour (The Great Jubilee) specially dedicated to God.
The trilogy impacted on the lay faithful varying rejuvenating sense of communion in every Catholic community in Nigeria; and notably, a wakeup call to the quiet congregation of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Idumagbo, Lagos.
